Khon Kaen

Getting around Khon Khaen

Getting around in the town is simple, like in Thailand, a lot of taxi or Tuk-tuk are available. There is also a lot of bus line that maybe is a little bit more difficult to use, but don’t afraid to ask for locals, they will help you. Keep an eye on the big abandoned tower in the middle of the city, it will be your point of reference to guide you through the street of Khon Kaen.

Khon Kaen’s centre is characterised by a strict grid system of wide streets and long blocks. It appears to have been designed for road traffic and discovering the city on foot is more difficult. Sidewalks are maybe free of street shop around the centre but in the other part of the town, there are a lot of street merchants on.

The city is large but the traffic is not as bad then in Bangkok. An alternative road can easily make you cross the city in less than 15 min. On route 2 or around the central plaza you will find some traffic jam, but in general, it’s quick to pass.
There is also a bypass road around the city, by using this one the distance may looking longer but you will gain time to reach your destination. With this trick, you will be able to enter quicker inside the part of the town where you want to go.
